The online Preparation of Clinical Nursing Faculty Certificate program is a joint effort by the College of Education, the School of Nursing, and Extended Learning. The program is designed to prepare nurses in clinical practice for clinical nursing faculty positions. The program consists of 12 semester units, 10 units of online study and 2 units of fieldwork. Nurses who hold a valid California RN license, have a Master's or higher degree in Nursing, have the equivalent of one year's full-time experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years and who complete the CSUSM Clinical Faculty Certificate Program are eligible for the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) classification as instructor to teach in BRN approved nursing programs.
The overall program goal is designed to educate qualified clinical nursing personnel in essential educational theories, methodologies, and techniques to qualify as clinical nursing faculty. Additionally, the program will increase access to a broader constituency of nurses seeking clinical faculty positions in both urban and rural settings.
